Trailer Electrical: Harness, Junction Box, and ABS Power Faults
Beyond the 7-way: trailer harness, junction box, and ABS power faults that take a trailer out of service.
The junction box
Behind the 7-way is the trailer junction box, where the harness splits to the front, rear, and ABS. Water intrusion, corroded splices, and loose terminals here cause intermittent lights, ABS faults, and multiple circuits failing at once. We open the junction box, inspect and reseal it, and repair corroded connections — a common root cause that's invisible from outside.
Harness faults
Trailer harnesses fail from chafing at the frame, crushed sections near the landing gear or slider, and corrosion at splices. We trace the affected circuit, find the break, and repair with sealed splices and loom. A whole-rear-end light failure usually points to a single harness break, not every lamp.
ABS power
Trailer ABS gets continuous power from the tractor through the blue wire (pin 7) and may have a backup from the stoplight circuit. A trailer ABS that only powers with the brakes applied points to a blue-wire fault at the 7-way or the tractor. We verify ABS power at the trailer ABS ECU and trace it back to the source.
Our mobile diesel technicians carry the tools and parts to diagnose and fix this on the shoulder or at your yard — 24/7/365 across Colorado, Wyoming, and Texas.
(303) 476-3622Trailer light faults are the most common DOT violation. We cover the 7-way, ground, and harness faults behind most failures.
Trailer brake faults cause DOT violations and runaway risk. We cover slack adjusters, chambers, and the spring brake system.
A sagging or bottoming trailer suspension damages cargo and tires. We cover air ride ride height, bags, and linkage.
Air bag failure sags the trailer and damages cargo. We cover finding the leak and when to replace vs. repair.
